History

The origin of the company was a small unit established in October 1969, in the garage of the entrepreneur Livinder Singh on his return from Denmark.  The formative years were spent in Glasgow, Scotland studying Engineering. The college vacations were spent in Germany, working in machine tool factories and getting practical experience. The vacation of next year was spent in Copenhagen working with consulting engineers.

On completion of B.Sc. In 1964, another degree in Engineering was obtained from the University of Strathclyde. Subsequently it was work experience with consulting engineers in the UK. The pastexperience of work in Scandinavia and theirinherent sense design of the region was thereason for going back to Denmark. The workexperience with designers and architects of Scandinavia made a lasting impression.

Decon's first product was a system of adjustable shelving for shops. While installing this system it became evident that the concept of product spotlighting and general illumination was totally non existent at that time.

A low voltage system was developed and patented. The fixture was a success. Soon after a visiting director of Rotaflex Lighting (subsequently Concord Lighting, UK) saw the potential of the effort to get display lighting in India. Livinder Singh was appointed as a director of the newly formed Rotaflex India. Hotel Lighting was the first area where the products were most successful. Rotaflex subsequently moved to Bombay, and Decon Lighting was established in Delhi in 1972. The first Asian trade fair in October 1972 launched the company as a serious participant in this nascent field dominated by giant multinationals.

Company Development

Decon was soon exporting large quantities of fixtures to Australia. This led to an introduction to Sweden's largest lighting manufacturer Fagerhults. The chairman of the Fagerhult group took personal interest in Decon and allowed them to manufacture the very latest fluorescent system- Trimtube, in India. In a very short time this product was produced to the exacting standards of Fagerhults and marketed by Philips under their own brand. Decon soon established another factory in Delhi to enlarge its manufacturing base. A dealer network was established to distribute the products all over India. The experience of a dedicated service to designers and architects gave Decon designs for a unique range of special fixtures. The products continue to be specified in most projects.

Dealer Network

Decon products are now available all over India. A network of nearly 50 dealers and representative offices in Chandigarh, Kanpur, Kolkata and Ahmedabad ensure service and advise for the best lighting solution.

Towards The New Millennium

In the new millennium there is a demand for the latest available technology. The primary concern is energy saving. Modern interiors and new materials also require special lighting techniques in all specialized areas. Accordingly the products available and new products offered reflect the contemporary trends.
